Londres, 1754. Six ans apr\u00e8s avoir laiss\u00e9 sa fille Clara \u00e0 l\u2019orphelinat de l\u2019h\u00f4pital Foundling, Bess Bright d\u00e9cide de la r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer. Craignant le pire, Bess est stup\u00e9faite lorsqu\u2019on lui apprend qu\u2019elle est d\u00e9j\u00e0 venue la r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer. Elle n\u2019aura de cesse de rechercher sa fille et de d\u00e9couvrir qui l\u2019a pris et pourquoi. \u00c0 moins d\u2019un kilom\u00e8tre de l\u2019institution, une jeune veuve vit recluse depuis 10 ans dans une sublime demeure. Quand un ami m\u00e9decin \u00e0 l\u2019orphelinat de Foundling la persuade d\u2019engager une nourrice pour sa fille, elle est d\u2019abord r\u00e9ticente \u00e0 l\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019accueillir une \u00e9trang\u00e8re. Cette semaine, les premi\u00e8res romances de Noel sont parus ! Mais m\u00eame si j’adore cette p\u00e9riode, j’ai envie de partage avec vous des lectures automnales et d‘Halloween,<\/a> \u00e9videmment. L’orpheline de Foundling est parfaite si vous cherch\u00e9 une ambiance lugubre. En effet, nous partons tout droit en Angleterre froide et humide, en 1746.\u00a0 L’\u00e9criture de l’autrice, que je connaissais d\u00e9j\u00e0 des Sorci\u00e8res de Pendle<\/a>, nous plonge vraiment dans la brume britannique. Je visualisais les maisons, l’orphelinat, tout le cadre, avec nettet\u00e9. J’ai d’ailleurs pr\u00e9vu de m’acheter son dernier roman, La Nurse du Yorkshite, tr\u00e8s bient\u00f4t, tant j’aime sa plume. M\u00eame un an plus tard, en fermant les yeux, je revois le salon dans lequel se mouvoient les personnages.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

L’h\u00e9roine de L’Orpheline de Foundling, Bess, va devoir partir \u00e0 la recherche de sa fille, kidnapp\u00e9e par une veuve riche. Mais pourquoi la dame a-t-elle fait \u00e7a ? En fait ce roman m\u2019a profond\u00e9ment questionn\u00e9 (et c\u2019est le but je pense) sur le r\u00f4le d\u2019une m\u00e8re. Est-ce la biologie qui prime ? Le confort ? L\u2019amour sinc\u00e8re ? La protection que l\u2019on souhaite donner ? L\u2019inqui\u00e9tude ? Quel est v\u00e9ritablement le r\u00f4le d\u2019une m\u00e8re ? Ou\u2026 peut-on en avoir deux ? Et pourquoi pas. Cela m\u2019a peut \u00eatre touch\u00e9 tout particuli\u00e8rement lors de ma lecture, l’an dernier, parce qu\u2019\u00e0 presque 30 ans, j\u2019apprennais qu\u2019on n\u2019a pas \u00e0 forc\u00e9ment choisir. Et si on prenait ce que la vie \u00e0 \u00e0 nous offrir, au jour le jour ? Apr\u00e8s tout, c’est la moral des t\u00e9l\u00e9films de Noel bient\u00f4t de retour : on ne sait pas de quoi sera fait demain ! Alors essayons de profiter de chaque jour comme il se doit.<\/p>
